DITO Telecommunity (formerly Mislatel) has revealed that it has signed up 2.6 million mobile subscribers since its launch in March and expects to reach six million by the end of the year. To help achieve this, chief administrative officer Adel Tamano said that the newcomer is targeting service launches in 53 more cities/municipalities this month, bringing the total to 286. According to Tamano, DITO is signing up new users at a rate of 20,000 per day.
In addition, the official reaffirmed the new third telco’s ambitions to enter the fixed line telephony market in the long term and confirmed the plan to launch a wireless home broadband offering in the fourth quarter of 2021, using its 5G network. In a press briefing yesterday (9 September) DITO chief technology officer Rodolfo Santiago said the telco was in the process of conducting a ‘user friendly test’ for the new home broadband service. ‘We know that this is the faster way of providing fixed broadband services to the home. Short- and medium-term, we are going to use 5G FWA as our means of providing that service, but eventually, we are going to [deliver] fibre-to-the-home [FTTH},’ he said.
