1 Sep 2021

US cableco Mediacom Communications has enlisted Ericsson to help it launch a 3GPP standards-based 3.5GHz Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) fixed-wireless access (FWA) service targeting rural America. The press release notes that Mediacom is the first major US cable provider to launch a high speed internet service leveraging Ericsson’s 4G and 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) solutions.

According to a report by Fierce Telecom, the network went live in mid-July, and is branded ‘Bolt’. A company representative told the site that the FWA network is focused on the 178 counties where Mediacom holds CBRS spectrum, with a particular focus on locations where towers are either already connected to or situated nearby Mediacom’s fibre network.
