MTN Ghana CEO Selorm Adavehoh has hinted that the operator could be poised to launch a 5G network in 2022, reports Techgh24. Speaking at the MTN@25 Business Executive Breakfast held at the company’s head office, the executive highlighted the operator’s philosophy over the last 25 years has been to embrace change and to serve its customers with new products. ‘Innovation has been a key pillar of our growth. We are always trying to make sure we can be the first to launch the next technology, but not only to be the first, but to actually bring that technology to the market and create value out of that technology. So 2G, 3G, 4G, and now 5G hopefully next year’, he stated.
The executive also revealed MTN Ghana now expects to invest USD200 million in network infrastructure upgrades in 2021, a significant increase on the USD150 million initially earmarked, following high demand for data during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company notably plans to deploy 4G at all its base stations in Accra by the close of this year and every site nationwide by the end of 2022.
