20 Aug 2021

Chinese full-service provider China Unicom has booked operating revenue of CNY164.2 billion (USD25.3 billion) for the first six months of 2021, a 9.2% increase compared to the same period of last year. Of that total, service revenue comprised CNY148.7 billion (up 7.5% year-on-year), including CNY82.1 billion from mobile services and CNY65.3 billion from fixed line services. EBITDA for H1 2021 was unchanged y-o-y at CNY49.5 billion, whilst net profit grew by 21.1% over the same period to CNY9.2 billion, bolstered by falling finance costs and greater income from the operator’s associates and joint ventures.

The operator counted a total 310.456 million mobile billing subscribers at the end of June 2021, up from 309.528 million a year earlier, whilst ARPU increased from CNY40.9 to CNY44.4 over the same period. 5G Package Subscriptions – which represents the number of mobile users signed up to a 5G plan and does not reflect the number of customers actively using the 5G network – grew to 113.3 million from 91.85 million at end-March 2021. Fixed broadband subscriptions, meanwhile, totalled 90.123 million in H1 2021 compared to 85.878 million a year earlier, although ARPU dipped to CNY41.8 from CNY43.0 in H1 2020.
