Romania’s National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) has revealed the average download speed enjoyed by the country’s fixed broadband customers stood at 185.8Mbps in 2020, a rise of almost 25% compared with the previous year, while the upload speed remained constant at 111.4Mbps. The regulator noted the figures recorded by its Netograf.ro speed testing platform reflect a 16% year-on-year increase in connections providing a downlink of at least 100Mbps, which accounted for 80% of the market at the end of 2020. These higher speeds resulted in average monthly data traffic per capita rising by more than 50% year-on-year to 44GB. The average download speeds achieved by mobile internet connections, meanwhile, remained stable at 24.2Mbps, although the average uplink fell by 19% to 10.2Mbps.
