Romania-based Digi Communications has reported group revenue (excluding intersegment revenue and other income) of EUR354.6 million (USD416.2 million) for the three-month period ended 30 June 2021, an increase of 14.4% from EUR309.9 million in Q2 2020. Revenue growth was driven by operations in Romania (up 14.5% to EUR215.1 million) and Spain (up 29.1% to EUR84.8 million), which more than offset a 3.4% decline in Hungary (EUR48.8 million); the Italian business generated EUR5.9 million (unchanged year-on-year). The group’s adjusted EBITDA totalled EUR128.7 million in 2Q21, up 15.4% from EUR111.5 million twelve months earlier, and total operating expenses increased 18.4% year-on-year to EUR317.8 million, while net profit stood at EUR34.3 million in the second quarter of 2021, compared with EUR15.0 million in the year-ago period.
In operational terms, the group reported a 14.5% rise in total RGUs to 19.303 million at 30 June 2021. Romania continues to be the group’s core market, contributing 61% of group revenues and 13.425 million RGUs in Q2 2021 (a 13.2% rise from 11.865 million RGUs twelve months earlier), followed by Spain (3.1 million RGUs, a 35.8% increase), Hungary (2.481 million, up 1%) and Italy (297,000, up 21.2%). The Romanian operation ended the quarter with 4.960 million pay TV customers (an increase of 15.3% y-o-y), 3.543 million fixed internet RGUs (up 18.9%) and 1.011 million fixed line telephony RGUs (down 4.7%), while its mobile subscriber base grew by 11.0% to 3.911 million.
