Azerfon extends LTE coverage

12 Aug 2021

Azerfon (Nar), Azerbaijan’s third largest mobile network operator (MNO) by subscribers, deployed 50 new base transceiver stations (BTS) in the first six months of 2021. As a result of the increase in the number of cell sites supporting LTE/LTE-A technology, the operator’s 4G subscriber base grew by 28% and the volume of traffic transmitted over the LTE network rose by 23%.

The company also noted it began providing services this year in areas regained by Azeri forces during the military conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh in late 2020, with cell sites supporting 2G, 3G and 4G deployed in the Khojavend and Jabrayil districts in the first half of the year. Nar’s network now covers 99.9% of the country’s population and 90% of territory via more than 8,780 BTS.
