ER-Telecom completes Avantel takeover

11 Aug 2021

Russian broadband network operator ER-Telecom confirmed in a statement on its website that it has completed the 100% acquisition of alternative Russian regional telecoms operator Avantel, which operates in cities including Moscow, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Barnaul, Nizhnevartovsk, Nefteyugansk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Samara and St Petersburg, concentrating on the B2B, B2O and government client segments.

Avantel’s strongest market positions are in Moscow and Siberia, while ER stated that the ‘strategically important’ deal will strengthen the group’s positions in the capital, the Volga region, Siberia and the Far East, as well as expand into new regions including Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug. ER envisages that the merger will open up new opportunities for improving the quality of customer service and expanding internet access, VPN and telephony services. Avantel was previously targeted in an unsuccessful takeover approach from Russian fixed line giant Rostelecom.
