Vodafone Romania returns licence for 2.6GHz TDD block

9 Aug 2021

Romania’s National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) has received a request from Vodafone Romania to waive its user rights for a 15MHz block of frequencies in the 2.6GHz TDD band (2600MHz-2615MHz), local publication Profit.ro reports. Vodafone bought the frequencies in the 2012 spectrum auction, paying EUR3 million (USD3.53 million) for a 15-year licence expiring on 5 April 2029. Following the request, ANCOM has confirmed the operator’s licence was amended with effect from 9 June 2021 and the frequencies will now be included in the multi-band spectrum auction to be staged later this year. Vodafone is said to have decommissioned the single test site it had deployed in the band.
