DITO claims two million mobile subscribers

The Philippines’ new third telco DITO Telecommunity announced yesterday (3 August) that it has connected its two-millionth subscriber – hitting the milestone less than five months after its commercial launch. In a Facebook post, the start-up confirmed: ‘In less than five months after our official launch, we have just reached two million subscribers, covering around 200 cities nationwide’.

DITO’s take-up rate and coverage rollout is proceeding swiftly as it works to hit an ambitious target of securing a 30% market share in the long term. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, on 11 June this year the operator said it would soon break the one million subscriber barrier – having signed up 890,000 customers by that date (it reached the milestone on 16 June) – and early last month it announced the expansion of coverage to 17 new locations, taking the total at the time to 140 cities/municipalities.
