Telefonica 2Q21 revenues drop 3.6% to EUR9.9bn; net debt reduced to EUR26.2bn

Spanish telecoms giant Telefonica has reported revenues of EUR9.964 billion (USD11.775 billion) for the three months ended 30 June 2021, down 3.6% year-on-year on a reported basis. Group OIBDA for the quarter under review was EUR13.469 billion, although the group notes that this figure was ‘impacted by special factors’ – notably capital gains from the merger of Virgin Media and O2 UK and the sale of Telxius Towers. Net income for 2Q21 reached EUR7.743 billion in 1Q21, while Telefonica notes that its net financial debt stood at EUR26.2 billion as of 30 June – a reduction of EUR11.0 billion y-o-y.

In operational terms, Telefonica reported consolidated mobile accesses of 274.917 million at 30 June 2021, of which 28.165 million were IoT accounts. In addition, the group reported 25.663 million broadband users, 31.396 million fixed telephony accounts and 11.258 million pay-TV subscribers.
