MTN South Africa is working to expand its 5G coverage and has deployed 5G towers in Polokwane in Limpopo and Emalahleni (Witbank) in Mpumalanga. Kagiso Moncho, the company’s General Manager for the Northern Region, said in a statement: ‘We have already activated 5G in greater Polokwane and Witbank, and intend to expand the 5G coverage footprint further across the region, into areas such as Nelspruit and Middelburg.’ Around 93% of MTN towers in the northern provinces of Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West have been upgraded to support 4G LTE technology, with MTN earmarking around ZAR350 million (USD23.5 million) for upgrades in the three provinces in FY2021.
