Eight small-scale ISPs located in Paraiba, Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Norte have merged their respective operations to create a new broadband player called Proxxima. According to TeleSintese, the enlarged operator serves around 95,000 subscribers and operates a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network that passes 350,000 homes.

The merged companies have been named as Ondanet, Netmark, CPnet, Datacommection and Enteriw (all from Paraiba); Netjat and Netonline (from Rio Grande do Norte) and Toolsnet (from Pernambuco). CEO Leonardo Gomes said he hopes that the ISP will end the year with 130,000, rising to 400,000 within five years.
