MTS follows up MTT takeover with RUB5.2bn data centre purchase

6 Jul 2021

Russia’s Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) has closed a deal to acquire a data centre near Moscow for RUB5.2 billion (USD70.7 million) including net debt, reports Reuters. The transaction sees MTS acquire 100% of shares in GDC Energy Group, which owns the GreenBushDC data centre. MTS said the data centre would be used in part to develop its cloud offering, as it looks to develop services beyond its core telecoms business. The announcement came five days after MTS’ RUB5.0 billion purchase of Multiregional Transit Telecom (MTT), expanding the group’s presence in segments including communications-platform-as-a-service (CPaaS).
