25 Jun 2021

Sector regulator the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has renewed the mobile licences for three mobile network operators (MNOs) covering the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB) regions. In a statement from the watchdog, the PTA confirmed that the trio of licensees – comprising Telenor Pakistan, Jazz and Ufone – had submitted a deposit of 50% of the total licence fee, amounting to a total of PKR3.19 billion (USD20.1 million). In a statement from the watchdog, the PTA noted that the licence renewals would ‘not only contribute towards uninterrupted provision of better telecom services to the people of AJK and GB but will also help in promotion of competition and investment in the telecom sector’.
