Etheric Networks, a fixed-wireless ISP that serves the San Francisco Bay Area, has acquired 19 Local Multipoint Distribution Service (LMDS) millimetre wave (mmWave) licences from Verizon Wireless, Fierce Wireless reports. As per the article, the frequency permits represent the remainder of Verizon’s mmWave holdings in the 29.1GHz-31.225GHz band. The licensing switch was approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on 8 June.
The concessions – which were previously held by Verizon holding companies Straight Path and Cellco Partnership – cover Californian locations such as San Francisco, San Diego and Sacramento, as well as the likes of Denver (Colorado), Salt Lake City (Utah) and Portland (Oregon).
