Ericsson to deploy high-band 5G network for Etisalat

21 Jun 2021

Etisalat of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has contracted Ericsson to deploy a 5G network based on millimetre wave (mmWave) frequencies. Ericsson says the rollout will help the telco achieve downlink data speeds of 4.2Gbps and latency of eight milliseconds, supporting use cases such as industry 4.0, automation and Internet of Things (IoT). The Telecoms and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) allocated the first spectrum in the 26GHz band in September 2020. Etisalat’s 5G wireless network currently uses 3.5GHz frequencies.
