Nadia Calvino, Spain’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, has unveiled a funding package worth EUR250 million (USD302 million) to enable the country to achieve 100% broadband coverage by 2025. The funds have been made available via the Universalisation of Digital Infrastructures for Cohesion Programme (Programa de Universalizacion de Infraestructuras Digitales para la Cohesion, Programa UNICO), which supersedes the Broadband Extension Programme (Programa de Extension de Banda Ancha, PEBA), which ran between 2017 and 2020. As per government data, the availability of 100Mbps connectivity increased from 76% to 88% under the auspices of the PEBA scheme.
