DISH launches ‘Project Genesis’ website for 5G sign-ups

16 Jun 2021

US satellite TV giant DISH Network has set up a new website to allow potential customers to register their interest in its planned 5G network. People can supply their contact details and Zip code and receive notification when the 5G service goes live in their area. While the website, dubbed Project Genesis, offers little in the way of useful information, a DISH spokesperson has confirmed to Fierce Wireless that the company is behind the site. It remains unclear as to whether Genesis will be used as the operator’s main wireless brand post-launch, however. DISH already owns the Boost Mobile, Ting Mobile and Republic Wireless brands in the US, while DISH Celular was used in Mexico.

In April this year DISH announced that Las Vegas will be the first live city in its nationwide 5G network deployment. DISH plans to deploy a 5G network covering 20% of the population by June 2022, rising to 70% by June 2023. Beta testing is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2021.
