Govt allocates 5MHz of 700MHz spectrum to Indian Railways

India’s Union Cabinet has approved the allocation of 5MHz of 700MHz spectrum to Indian Railways for public safety and security services at stations on its trains. In a statement, the government said that the frequencies would be used to provide LTE-based Mobile Train Radio Communication on its route, to provide reliable voice, video and data communications services for operational, safety and security applications, as well as for modern signalling and train protection systems. Investment in the project, which will be completed over the next five years, is set to reach more than INR250 billion (USD3.4 billion).
