UScellular achieves 1Gbps 5G speeds over 10km

9 Jun 2021

UScellular (formerly US Cellular), Nokia and Qualcomm Technologies have announced that they have achieved a ‘world record extended range over millimetre wave (mmWave)’. The 28GHz field trial – which was conducted on UScellular’s commercial network in Grand Island, Nebraska – involved a distance of 10km and achieved average downlink speeds of 1 Gbps, and uplink speeds reaching approximately 57Mbps.

The companies say they jointly tested multiple locations with different scenarios, measuring distance, throughput and latency. Further, UScellular notes that this milestone paves the way to bring extended range 5G services to even more rural areas.
