8 Jun 2021

Telkomsel (Telekomunikasi Selular), which launched its commercial 5G network in the cities of Balikpapan, Medan and Surakarta (aka Solo) at the start of the month, has expanded coverage to include another five cities, namely Surabaya, Makassar, Bandung, Batam and Denpasar. The cellco, majority owned by the country’s largest telecoms company Telkom, says its coverage will be ‘gradually expanded’ over time and is designed to encourage ‘the strengthening of the cross-sector digital ecosystem by presenting digital lifestyle solutions’ across Indonesia. The operator’s 5G launch is now supported by a number of devices compatible with 5G non-standalone (NSA) technology operating in the 2300MHz band, including Oppo Reno5 5G, Huawei Mate 40, Vivo X60 and Vivo X60 Pro.

Alongside the launch of 5G, meanwhile, IndoTelko notes that Telkomsel also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Schneider Electric to strengthen strategic partnerships in accelerating Indonesia’s digital transformation (DX) and Industry 4.0 by implementing 5G trial joint collaboration through various programmes.
