Ufinet taps Infinera for 800G Colombian upgrade

2 Jun 2021

Neutral infrastructure wholesale operator Ufinet has enlisted Californian vendor Infinera to deploy its ICE6 800G coherent technology solution for its new national long-haul network in Colombia. This deployment will double the capacity of Ufinet’s current network, enabling it to meet the growing bandwidth needs of its customers and provide connectivity in regions that are currently unconnected.

TeleGeography notes that Ufinet currently presides over a Latin American fibre-optic network that spans 75,000km. Markets covered by the infrastructure include Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile. In addition, more than 200,000 homes are passed by the operator’s neutral fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network.
