Madrid-based Telefonica completed the sale of Telxius’ European tower division to American Tower Corporation (ATC) on 1 June, following the receipt of regulatory approvals in Spain and Germany. As such, Telxius says that it has received a payment of approximately EUR6.2 billion (USD7.6 billion) for the tower division in Europe.
TeleGeography notes that the tower sale – agreed in January this year – has been structured as two separate, independent transactions. The second phase of the deal will encompass Telxius’ cell towers in Latin America (Brazil, Peru, Chile and Argentina), and will close once the corresponding regulatory authorisations have been obtained. In total the two deals include 30,722 tower sites.
