ZET-Mobile switches on 5G in parts of Dushanbe

1 Jun 2021

Mobile operator Tacom (ZET-Mobile) has opened access to a fledgling 5G network now live in selected parts of Tajikistan’s capital city Dushanbe. Information on ZET-Mobile’s website and its social media pages confirms that the new network uses the 3500MHz (Band 78) frequency range, with the company inviting customers to connect devices including smartphones, modems and routers by registering at its sales and service offices or by contacting its call centre, with 5G access provided at no additional charges to existing subscriber tariffs. ZET added that the launch followed its completion of ‘full 5G testing’, although coverage in the capital is initially limited to a handful of zones – the website lists Microdistrict 91, Rudaki Avenue, Sadriddin Aini street and Ahmadi Donisha street, although it was not confirmed if this initial list was exhaustive.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, ZET is the third cellco in Tajikistan to switch on 5G services, following MegaFon in February 2020 (operating a live network zone in central Dushanbe) and Tcell in August 2020 (with several live base stations, also in central Dushanbe).
