PLDT Inc. wireless arm Smart Communications says it has now deployed more than 5,000 5G sites across the Philippines as it looks to consolidate a position as the leading provider of next generation mobile services. The mobile network operator (MNO) confirmed that following its initial selected sites covering Metro Manila, Angeles City, Baguio City, Cavite City, Cebu City, Clark City and Davao City, it now offers its ‘Smart’s Unli 5G’ offer to subscribers at over 3,000 locations, including Batangas, Bacolod, Boracay, Cagayan de Oro, Laguna, Pampanga, Pangasinan and Quezon. This reportedly includes 5G sites deployed in far-flung and mountainous areas, such as Brgy. Linut-od in Argao, Cebu.
Commenting on the latest rollout update, Mario G Tamayo, Head of Technology at PLDT-Smart, said: ‘Our accelerated 5G rollout is part of our continuous efforts to upgrade and expand our network, ensuring that we deliver the best data experience to our customers in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.’ The MNO now offers its Unli 5G offer to all Smart 5G sites nationwide. The new network is supported by PLDT’s fibre infrastructure which spanned more than 478,000km as of 31 March 2021.
