Digital Colony and Macquarie Mexico Infrastructure Fund are exploring the sale of towerco Mexico Telecom Partners (MTP), Bloomberg reports, citing people with knowledge of the matter. The two firms are working with an adviser to evaluate options for MTP after fielding unsolicited interest from potential suitors, one of the sources indicated. The company may fetch USD1 billion or more.
TeleGeography notes that MTP was founded in 2014 via the combination of the Mexican cell tower portfolios of Digital Bridge and Macquarie Mexican Infrastructure Fund. The company’s network currently comprises 3,000 cell sites – up from just 550 at launch – making it one of the largest private owners of wireless communication infrastructure in Mexico.
