19 May 2021

Bahraini operator Kalaam Telecom has acquired Kuwait-based Zajil International Telecom Company, as it continues its strategy to expand its enterprise solutions and wholesale network services across the MENA region. Kalaam CEO Veer Passi told Capacity Media that the acquisition makes the group ‘one of the top three ISP providers’ in the GCC region, having recently launched the Kalaam Network Optical Transit (KNOT) terrestrial cable system spanning Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE and Qatar, while Zajil’s Kuwaiti and Middle Eastern operations will be integrated with Kalaam’s existing Kuwait-based multi-country MPLS network operating subsidiary Tawasul Telecom.

Mr Passi added that Kalaam’s acquisition of Zajil will grow the group’s revenue to more than USD100 million, while the combined entity will offer local ISP services in Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and operate 53 fully-owned international network points of presence (PoPs) in 25 countries.
