Fiberklaar to kick off fibre deployment in Geel

19 May 2021

Fiberklaar, the joint venture between Belgian full-service telecoms operator Proximus and Sweden’s EQT Infrastructure, has announced that it will begin deployment of its FTTH network in the municipality of Geel. An agreement has been signed with the city council and the rollout will begin once 20% of residents have signed up for a fibre connection, with customers who subscribe during the information campaign offered free installation. The company is currently working with a contractor and local government on the preparatory process and has stressed that the rollout will take place in consultation with the local government and residents in order to create as little inconvenience as possible. Fiberklaar plans to invest more than EUR2.5 billion (USD3.05 billion) in the deployment of an open FTTP network in Flanders, with a target to connect 1.5 million homes and businesses to fibre by 2028.
