Vodafone New Zealand has announced residents of Palmerston North can now connect to its 5G mobile and fixed-wireless broadband services, following cell site upgrades as part of the operator’s ‘turbocharged’ network investment programme. Vodafone NZ’s head of mobile access network, Thaigan Govender, noted in a press release that the telco is expanding its 5G footprint in response to a 56% increase in data usage on its network last year. ‘Locals and visitors to Palmerston North can now enjoy the power of 5G and get even faster connectivity to their smartphones or via 5G Broadband for high-capacity internet, with 5G coverage coming to more parts of the Manawatu-Whanganui region soon,’ he added. Vodafone now offers 5G in parts of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown, Tauranga and Palmerston North. Vodafone customers with a 5G-enabled smartphone can automatically access its 5G network for no extra charge.
