Telekom Deutschland, the domestic fixed and mobile unit of Deutsche Telekom (DT), plans to roll out more than one million fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) connections in the three cities of Hamburg, Frankfurt and Dusseldorf by the end of 2025. Around 540,000 connections, offering speeds of up to 1Gbps, will be deployed in Hamburg, 375,000 in Frankfurt and 160,000 in Dusseldorf. By the same date, Telekom is also aiming to be able to supply three million homes and businesses in rural areas of Germany with fibre services.
Telekom currently supplies more than 34.1 million households with downloads of up to 100Mbps through vectoring technology, as well as 25.8 million homes with maximum speeds of 250Mbps thanks to super vectoring, while around 2.3 million households across Germany can access a FTTH connection. The group will invest EUR2.5 billion annually in the expansion of fibre-optic networks until 2024.
