The Philippines’ new third telco, DITO Telecommunity, has reported achieving the milestone of 500,000 subscribers on its network, roughly two months after it launched services in the country. In a virtual briefing yesterday (17 May) to cover the switch-on of services in Metro Manila, DITO Chairman and CEO Dennis Uy confirmed: ‘Our current subscribers are half a million Filipinos’. However, having already rowed back on its target to secure a 30% market share in year one, the firm’s CTO Rodolfo Santiago admitted during the presentation that the newcomer still has a long way to go – believing that it will accelerate only when the Mobile Number Portability Act is in place.
Meanwhile, DITO confirmed the launch of mobile services in the following areas of Metro Manila: Manila, Quezon City, Muntinlupa, Paranaque, Pasay, Taguig, Pasteros, Makati, Pasig, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela, Las Pinas and Marikina. Its network now covers 100 cities and municipalities.
