Nepal Telecom (NT), the country’s largest mobile network operator (MNO) by subscribers, has begun trials of VoLTE services, enabling customers with a compatible handset to enjoy high definition voice calling over its 4G network and simultaneous use of voice and high speed data services. The operator is also promising VoLTE users faster call set-up, HD video calling and improved battery life. Customers who activate the service are being offered 100 VoLTE voice minutes free of charge for 28 days. Launched in Kathmandu and Pokhara in January 2017, NT’s LTE network has since been extended to parts of all 77 districts, with the company reporting over 2.38 million 4G subscribers at end-December 2020.
