Chilean full-service provider Movistar Chile has selected Nokia to provide equipment from its ‘AirScale’ portfolio to launch 5G services and to upgrade its existing 4G networks. According to Nokia the modernised network will utilise the 3.5GHz spectrum that Movistar was awarded earlier this year and will deliver ‘ultra-low latency, huge connectivity and extreme capacity’. The vendor also noted that its AirScale products can be ‘seamlessly’ upgraded from 4G to 5G via a software-based upgrade.
Commenting on the development, Antonio Bueno, Head of Technology at Movistar Chile was quoted as saying: ‘We believe that 5G will bring enormous potential to the country, both for people and for the vertical sectors. It is in this last area where the fifth generation will also be able to make the Connected Industry and the IoT a reality, thanks to its low latency, high speeds, and the ability to connect thousands of devices.’
