Globe 5G and FTTH deployments on track

4 May 2021

Globe Telecom said that despite the additional hurdles presented by local pandemic precautions, it had expanded its 5G mobile network coverage to 1,383 sites in the National Capital Region (NCR), Bacolod, Boracay, Cebu, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro and Davao as of 31 March 2021. Further, the Ayala-led enterprise confirmed that in 1Q21 it kept its deployment schedule on track, installing 318 new cell towers across the Philippines. However, the company’s Senior Vice President for Program Delivery, Network Technical Group, Joel Agustin, issued a statement noting: ‘While our numbers are good for the first quarter of the year, there is still a lot more work to be done’.

In addition, Globe installed 274,000 high speed broadband lines, more than 25% of its target of one million new fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) lines for 2021.
