A1 posts 22% rise in Q1 net profit

28 Apr 2021

A1 Telekom Austria Group has reported total revenues of EUR1.14 billion (USD1.37 billion) for the first quarter of 2021, a slight increase of 0.8% from EUR1.13 billion in the year-ago period, with increases in all segments apart from a foreign exchange-driven decline in Belarus. Mobile service revenues fell by 0.4%, as decreases in Austria, Belarus and Slovenia were almost offset by increases in Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia and North Macedonia. Group EBITDA rose by 4.7% from EUR380.6 million in Q1 2020 to EUR398.3 million twelve months later, and A1 Telekom Austria Group reported a 22.0% jump in net profit from EUR89.3 million to EUR108.9 million over the same period, as the solid operational performance and an improved foreign currency exchange result more than outweighed higher income tax expenses.

At 31 March 2021 A1 Telekom Austria Group reported a total of 21.93 million wireless subscribers, an increase of 2.9% year-on-year, as strong demand for mobile Wi-Fi routers and growth in M2M subscribers, coupled with increased accesses in Croatia (up 3.7%), Serbia (2.2%), Belarus (9.0%) and Slovenia (0.6%), helped offset declining numbers in other segments. Total wireline RGUs fell by 0.9% from 6.13 million at end-March 2020 to 6.08 million twelve months later, as growth in high bandwidth broadband RGUs could not compensate for the decline in low bandwidth broadband and fixed line voice RGUs in Austria.
