Algeria’s number portability decree approved

20 Apr 2021

An executive decree defining the conditions and procedures for the implementation of mobile number portability (MNP) in Algeria has been approved following its presentation to the government on 14 April at a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, it was announced by telecoms minister Brahim Boumzar, quoted by Agence Ecofin.

A telecoms reform act, Law 18-04 of May 2018 (‘General rules on post and electronic communications’), included provisions supporting MNP but its implementation was delayed. The Algerian telecoms authorities recently accelerated the process to introduce portability to help encourage network operators to improve their service quality and coverage via the ramping up of competition.
