Swisscom completes 2G shutdown

19 Apr 2021

Swiss state-owned telco Swisscom has completed the deactivation of its 2G network, having started the shutdown in January this year. In a statement from the operator, Swisscom noted that the proportion of traffic transmitted over its 2G network had fallen to just 0.03% by the end of 2020 and the closure of the legacy system frees up its spectrum resources for more efficient 4G and 5G technologies.
