Full-service provider Magenta Telekom, which was formed in 2019 from the merger of wireless operator T-Mobile Austria and cableco UPC Austria, has upgraded its entire cable network in the Tyrol region to enable maximum speeds of 1Gbps. Around 100,000 homes and businesses in the region had been upgraded by November 2020, with this total now reaching 132,000 (40% of homes and businesses in the state) across 90 Tyrolean municipalities, marking the completion of the modernisation of Magenta’s network as well as select partner’s infrastructure.
‘Tyrol has now finally arrived in the gigabit era. All of Magenta’s Tyrolean customers have access to the latest high-speed internet based on a reliable, system-relevant infrastructure. The Magenta gigabit network meets today’s requirements and at the same time is able to cope with future demands. Especially in times of home office, distance learning, video streaming and intensive broadband applications in households with more than one person,’ stated Andreas Bierwirth, CEO of Magenta Telekom, adding: ‘The rapid expansion of the network has succeeded primarily thanks to the excellent cooperation with the Tyrolean communities and partner network operators.’
Magenta’s gigabit cable network covers over 1.4 million households across the country, equivalent to 32% of all households in Austria.
