Epic Malta (formerly Vodafone Malta) has awarded a contract to Ericsson to upgrade its mobile networks and prepare them for 5G. The vendor will deploy 5G radio access network equipment, incorporating Ericsson Spectrum Sharing. Tamas Banyai, CEO of Epic, said: ‘The full modernisation of our radio network and the deployment of the latest 5G technology means that our customers throughout the country can expect significant improvements in mobile connectivity, with higher speeds and lower latency for streaming along with a whole new world of future applications.’

TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that Monaco Telecom acquired Vodafone Malta from Vodafone Group in a EUR250 million (USD298 million) deal which completed in March 2020. The Epic brand name was introduced in November.
