ECA confirms further extension to bidding deadline for new licences

6 Apr 2021

Another extension to the bidding deadline for Ethiopia’s two new nationwide communications concessions has been confirmed by the Ethiopia Communications Authority (ECA). Announcing the delay to the licensing process via its social media feed, the local telecoms regulator said the decision to once again push back the date for the acceptance of bids was ‘due to requests by bidders to have more time to finalise their offer in light of [COVID-19] market environment’. As per the ECA’s latest decision, a new deadline of 26 April 2021 has now been set for interested parties to submit their bid.

As previously reported by CommsUpdate, in February 2021 the ECA announced an initial delay to the licensing process – to 5 April from an original 5 March deadline – saying at the time that the postponement had been made following requests received from would-be bidders during the question and answer period of the request for proposals (RFP) process for the concessions.
