30 Mar 2021

Telefonica Deutschland is accelerating the rollout of its 5G network with the aim of reaching 30% of the German population this year and nationwide coverage by 2025. Services are currently live in more than 30 cities via a network of around 1,000 3.5GHz antennas and the firm will install a further 6,000 this year, as well as several thousand antennas which use the 700MHz and 1800MHz frequency bands. Telefonica also revealed that it plans to launch a 5G Standalone (5G SA) network by the end of 2021, and noted that it is refarming its 3G frequencies for its 4G network to close LTE coverage gaps in rural areas and increase capacity across the country.
