Ecuador’s Ministry of Telecommunications & Information Society (Mintel) has announced that more than 54,000 citizens in the Antonio Ante canton in the northern province of Imbabura can now connect to high speed internet via 20 new Wi-Fi access points. The network, which uses the Express Wi-Fi by Facebook platform, is part of a collaboration between Mintel, state-owned operator Corporacion Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (CNT) and the local government within the framework of the Ecuador Digital policy. The network will enable an average of 60 users at a time to access the network free of charge for up to four hours a day per device. CNT has now installed a total of 354 Wi-Fi hotspots in rural and urban areas of the country.
