Cell C network migration misses end-February target

25 Mar 2021

Cell C’s migration of its contract and broadband customers to the Vodacom South Africa network failed to meet the cellco’s 28 February target and remains ongoing, officials have informed MyBroadband. A Cell C spokesperson informed the news site: ‘The original target for a complete migration by end-February was not met, however we are pleased with the progress to date.’

TeleGeography notes that Cell C is in the process of shutting down its RAN and moving its customers onto Vodacom and MTN infrastructure as part of a turnaround strategy designed to shore up its perilous finances.

Alongside the stuttering Vodacom migration, Cell C started to build its virtual RAN on MTN’s network infrastructure on 1 January 2021. This process is expected to take a full three years to complete.
