Globe Telecom said that in the first two months of this year it secured 495 permits to build new telecoms towers across the country, as local governments fast-tracked its requests in line with national government directives. The company bagged 253 permits in January and a further 242 the following month as it forges ahead with plans to build a minimum 2,000 new cell towers in 2021.

According to a company statement, the majority of permits were in North Luzon (164), followed by NCR (118), Visayas (78), Mindanao (71) and South Luzon (64). ‘More and more local government units are now realising the value and importance of connectivity especially for people who work from home and for children doing online learning,’ said Globe senior VP for Program Delivery, Network Technical Group, Joel Agustin.
