ER-Telecom, Nokia testing 5G FWA for businesses in Moscow

16 Mar 2021

Russian broadband network operator ER-Telecom has begun testing 5G fixed-wireless access (FWA) for business users in Moscow in partnership with Nokia. The test is using Nokia AirScale base stations, mmWave compact active antennas and the AirScale System Module, with ER-Telecom’s test spectrum allocations in the 4.8GHz-4.99GHz and 27GHz bands. Nokia notes that high data rates enabled by 5G in high radio frequency bands will serve as a foundation for broadband wireless access networks, and new FWA services will become available in areas where cabling is not feasible or when a fast time-to-market introduction of services is required. ER-Telecom aims to test 5G in more than 50 zones including locations in Moscow and St Petersburg.
