TIM faces EUR1.1bn claim for damages

12 Mar 2021

Vodafone Italy and Fastweb are suing Telecom Italia (TIM) for a total of EUR1.1 billion (USD1.3 billion) in damages, Reuters reports. The claim follows a ruling by Italy’s Competition Authority (Autorita Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato, AGCM) last year which found TIM guilty of abusing its dominant position in the country’s broadband sector by obstructing the entry of rival operators. The regulator fined TIM EUR116 million as a result of its verdict in March 2020, saying the former monopoly had carried out a ‘premeditated anti-competitive strategy’ in 2017.
