Zen Internet – which claims to operate ‘one of the largest independent data networks in the UK’ – has become the first provider to confirm that its residential service is now available to subscribers in areas covered by CityFibre’s new GBP80 million (USD111 million) fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) network in the East Midlands city of Leicester. As well as Leicester, Zen notes that its new ‘Full Fibre 900 Plus’ service is also available in Newcastle, Adur & Worthing and Ipswich.
In November 2020 Zen became CityFibre’s third major strategic customer, joining its launch partner Vodafone and TalkTalk, which made long-term commitments following the acquisition of its FibreNation venture by CityFibre. CityFibre, which has positioned itself as ‘the UK’s third national digital infrastructure platform’, is engaged in a GBP4 billion Gigabit City Investment Programme. It currently presides over networks in more than 60 towns and cities.
