Digicel Curacao to provide high speed fibre to schools

9 Mar 2021

The Government of Curacao and Digicel have signed an agreement on the School Digitalisation Project to offer high speed fibre-optic internet to 118 schools, under a joint plan overseen by the Ministry of Education and the Bureau of Telecommunication & Post (BT&P), after Digicel’s proposal was selected as the best-suited technically and economically. As reported by the Curacao Chronicle, the project will use Digicel and its subsidiary TRES Networks’ fibre-optic network to provide three levels of internet speeds based on the number of students at each school. Metro Ethernet connections of 100Mbps, 200Mbps and 300Mbps were chosen as the base speeds, with all schools connecting to shared bandwidth via a centralised data centre also enabling control of website/content access. An initial phase of 60 schools can be connected to fibre within a week, according to Digicel.
