Uganda regulator pushing for more network sharing

8 Mar 2021

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) is preparing a legal framework for the deployment and sharing of telecoms infrastructure. The regulator wants local operators to pool their efforts in order to speed up network expansion, Agence Ecofin reports. According to the UCC, the legal framework will ‘facilitate the coordination of all government interventions in the development of broadband infrastructure; and also regulate the private sector to ensure the sharing and complementarity of their broadband networks in order to avoid duplication in the deployment of the infrastructure’. A public consultation has been opened to discuss its plans.
